The 2018 Tinner Hill Blues Festival: The Basics
This year’s Tinner Hill Blues Festival takes place Friday, June 8th to Sunday, June 10th at multiple venues around Falls Church. The festival is presented by the Tiller Hill Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading knowledge and awareness of African-American history and civil rights in Falls Church and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The group also runs a number of other high-profile cultural happenings in the region, including the Harlem Renaissance Fair and the Falls Church Women’s History Walk, and manages several fascinating Falls Church historic sites.
Saturday at the Festival
The main course of the Tinner Hill Blues Festival is the jampacked concert schedule on Saturday, June 9th between 1 and 8:30 PM. This year’s acts include Vanessa Collier, Jarekus Singleton, Kenny Neal, Albert Castiglia, DC Mudd, and Bushmaster Blues featuring Gary Brown.
That afternoon and evening of music follows up “Early Bird Blues” at the Falls Church City’s Farmers Market in the parking lot of City Hall. And during the festival proper, you’ll also find plenty of craft beer and barbecue to savor, plus films, an art show, a kid-friendly instrument petting zoo, and other activities. It’s an all-out party in other words, with some exquisite onstage blues music the centerpiece.
