The Caps have been delighting D.C.-area crowds since 1974; they really delighted them 20 years ago, when they won the Eastern Conference championship, falling to the Detroit Red Wings in a sweep at the ’98 Stanley Cup Final.
This season the Caps have earned themselves a 29-15-5 record, putting them atop the NHL Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division and at third place in the conference as a whole.
The Capitals host nine home games this month. Their February opponents at the Capital One Arena are: the Vegas Golden Knights (Sunday, Feb. 4 at 12:30 PM), the Columbus Blue Jackets (Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 PM), the Detroit Red Wings (Sunday, Feb. 11 at 3 PM), the Tampa Bay Lightning (Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7 PM), the Buffalo Sabres (Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 PM), and the Ottawa Senators (Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7 PM).
The Capital One Arena
The Capital One Arena, which opened as the MCI Center in 1997, is one of the major hubs of D.C.’s Chinatown neighborhood. In addition to the Caps, it plays host to a trio of basketball teams—the NBA’s Washington Wizards, the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, and the Georgetown Hoyas—as well as the Washington Valor arena football team.
February 2018 at the Capital One Arena has some Wizards and Hoyas games on the docket plus a different kind of ice-rink action with Disney on Ice Presents Frozen from the 14th through the 19th. Meanwhile mark your calendar for March 7th through the 11th, when the 2018 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship goes down here.
