Calling all art lovers: You’ll have the multimedia works of better than 200 artists from the D.C. metro area and all across the country to peruse just steps from your Autograph Collection accommodations at Morrison House this September. That’s when the King Street Art Festival gets underway for its 16th annual edition: a two-day party of lovely creations and good times in the handsome heart of Old Town Alexandria!
Alexandria’s King Street Art Festival
This year’s King Street Art Festival takes place Saturday, September 15th from 10 to 7 PM and Sunday, September 16th from 11 AM to 5 PM along Old Town Alexandria’s main drag. The art for display and sale will snazzify King Street for some six blocks between Washington and Union streets: as close as can be to Morrison House!
We’re talking paintings, prints, ceramics, jewelry, glasswork, sculptures, and so much more: on the order of $15 million of art spread out along this historic thoroughfare. Whether you’re looking to purchase or simply want to browse the offerings and pick the brains of the artists, the King Street Art Festival is a fabulous excuse to get out and about in Old Town Alexandria—and admission is free!
Associated Happenings During the King Street Art Festival
Close to the King Street goings-on, the Torpedo Factory Art Center will be drawing festivalgoers to its merry Beer & Wine Torpedo Garden from 11 AM to 4 PM each day—and also, of course, to its dozens of working artist studios and multiple galleries featuring the work of well more than 100 local artists.
Speaking of local artists, the King Street Art Festival will be mustering funds to benefit them via Alexandria’s non-profit The Art League through the Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser, wherein you can buy a ceramic bowl handmade by an Art League artist for a mere $15 and have it happily filled with a scoop of ice cream to boot. By purchasing a bowl (and the frozen treat within), you’ll also get to enter a drawing for an Art League certificate and ceramic piece.
